This is my first masticating juicer, and it compares really well against the centrifugal juicers I have used before. It is well designed, all the parts looks sturdy, and there are some clever features to aid cleaning.
I like the fact that the pulp is expelled out of it during juicing, that eliminates most of the cleaning work. There is a good cleaning brush (like a large toothbrush) that cleans out the innards and the strainer. It takes only a few minutes to clean, which was one of the things I was a bit concerned about before I purchased it.
The juice quality is excellent - the pieces do need to be cut smaller than with some of the previous juicers I used, but that only adds an extra minute or two to the prep time. This is more than made up for with the quality of the juice.
The slower rotation speed certainly gives the impression that it will last longer than typical juicers; combined with the juice quality, this totally justifies the extra price tag in my opinion.
Two minor gripes: there are two foil strainers, one coarser than the other. This isn't explained in the operating manual (as far as I noticed), and I used the coarser strainer with my first juice, which mean there was too much fibre in the juice, making it undrinkable. I'm still not sure what the coarser strainer is for - I did some googling but didn't find anything.
The re-assembly of the unit after cleaning is slightly fiddly, but I think this will be a non-issue after a few more goes at it.

Omega VERT VSJ843RR Slow Juicer
The new Omega VERT VSJ843RR Slow Juicer in Red is the latest vertical juicer released by the established Omega Juicers brand. The new Omega VERT VSJ843RR is very similar to the lasted Hurom HH 11 Elite Juicer and features the same front end parts including the 2 winged augur that spins at only 43 rpms, upgraded steel Ultem Juicing screens and easy assembly parts. Like the Hurom HH 11 Elite the new Omega VRT VSJ produces exceptionally high juice yield and does an excellent job on leafy greens. Unlike the new Hurom HH 11 Elite, the Omega VERT VSJ does not feature the pulp control lever on the front of the Drum which allows you to make smoothies, it also does not feature the convenient drying stand for parts and the new Omega has a much larger footprint with the body design of Omega larger and bulkier compared to the latest Hurom.
The new Omega VRT VSJ843RR incorporates a host of key improvements over the previous VRT models and is backed by the excellent Omega 15 year warranty.

Benefits of the Omega VERT VSJ Vertical Juicer
Traditional slow speed horizontal masticating juicers have a much smaller surface area on the juicing strainer and augur which somewhat restricts the juice extraction process. Vertical changed that process by moving the juicing mechanism to the top of the juice extractor and using a strainer with a larger surface area which results in the juice passing through much quicker after it has been juiced. While still operating at only 43 RPM’s Vertical Masticating juicers can produce a litre of juice in about half the time it takes in traditional horizontal machines.
In the past customers who have been frustrated by the slow speed of horizontal masticating juicers have opted for centrifugal juicers however high speed juicers oxidise the juice quickly resulting in poorer nutritional value, very little enzymes and no storage value, however with the latest range of vertical juicers you get the benefit of much faster processing times with juice that can be stored for 48 hours with minimal loss of nutrients. Another benefit in having the juicing mechanism at the top of the juicer means the produce you feed in pretty much self-feeds as the augur screw draws the produce in, eliminating the need to use the food pusher with anything but leafy greens.
The augur screw and juice strainer are made from GE-Ultem material which is food safe, BPA Free and eight times stronger than the normal material used on juicers. Vertical Juicers like the Omega VRT VSJ are a doddle to clean. Simply pour in water after you’ve made your juice and you can flush out much of the residual pulp. Vertical juicers are easy to assemble, disable and clean and take approximate 50% of the time to make a juice compared to Horizontal juicers.
