A Week of Juicing: What Happened When We Tried It

Juicing has become one of the most talked-about ways to boost your health, increase energy, and get more fruit and veg into your diet. But does it actually make a difference in real life?

We decided to find out.

For one full week, we committed to drinking at least one fresh juice every day, using a mix of fruits and vegetables, and keeping everything else in our routine fairly normal. No extreme dieting, no drastic changes, just simple, consistent juicing.

Here’s what happened.

The Plan

Before starting, we set a few ground rules to keep things realistic:

  • One fresh juice per day (sometimes two on busier days)
  • A mix of fruit and vegetable-based juices
  • No skipping meals or replacing food entirely
  • Use fresh, easily available UK ingredients

We also tested a mix of recipes, from classic green juices to sweeter blends, to keep things interesting.

Day 1–2: A Fresh Start (and a Bit of Effort)

The first thing we noticed was the prep.

Washing, chopping, and juicing does take a bit of time, especially if you’re new to it. That said, once we got into a rhythm, it became much quicker.

We started simple:

  • Apple, carrot, and ginger
  • Orange and carrot

First impressions:

  • Tasted far better than expected
  • Felt like a healthier alternative to morning coffee
  • Slight energy lift, but nothing dramatic yet

Day 3–4: Energy Picks Up

By midweek, things started to shift.

The biggest change was in energy levels. Instead of reaching for snacks mid-afternoon, we found ourselves feeling more steady and less sluggish.

We also became a bit more adventurous:

  • Spinach, apple, cucumber, and lemon
  • Beetroot, carrot, and apple

What we noticed:

  • Less craving for sugary snacks
  • Felt more hydrated throughout the day
  • Green juices were surprisingly enjoyable (once balanced properly)

Day 5–6: Small but Noticeable Changes

By this point, juicing had become part of the routine rather than something we had to think about.

Preparation felt quicker, and we started experimenting more with combinations.

Changes we experienced:

  • Skin looked slightly clearer and more hydrated
  • Digestion felt more regular
  • Energy levels stayed consistent, especially in the afternoons

Nothing extreme, but definitely noticeable.

Day 7: The Verdict

After a full week, the results weren’t dramatic overnight transformations, but they were real.

Here’s what stood out most:

1. More Consistent Energy

No major spikes or crashes, just a steadier feeling throughout the day.

2. Better Hydration

Fresh juice naturally increases fluid intake, especially with ingredients like cucumber and apple.

3. Healthier Habits

Juicing made us more aware of what we were eating overall. It naturally encouraged better choices.

4. It’s Easier Than You Think

Once you get into the habit, juicing becomes quick and enjoyable rather than a chore.

What We Learned

A few key takeaways from the experience:

  • You don’t need complicated recipes to get started
  • Balance is key – too much fruit can make juices overly sweet
  • Prep gets faster with practice
  • The right juicer makes a big difference, especially when it comes to ease of use and cleaning

Would We Keep Going?

Yes, but with a realistic approach.

Instead of going all-in on juice cleanses, adding one fresh juice a day feels sustainable, enjoyable, and genuinely beneficial.

It’s a simple way to increase your fruit and vegetable intake without overthinking it.

Thinking of Trying It Yourself?

If you’re new to juicing, start simple:

  • Stick to 3–4 ingredients per juice
  • Use a base like apple or carrot for natural sweetness
  • Add greens gradually
  • Keep it consistent rather than perfect

And most importantly, find a juicer that fits your lifestyle. Something easy to use and clean makes all the difference when building a daily habit.

Final Thoughts

A week of juicing won’t completely transform your health overnight, but it can kickstart better habits, improve how you feel day to day, and make healthy living more accessible.

For us, it was less about a “challenge” and more about discovering how easy it is to feel a bit better, one glass at a time.
