Inspiring Ideas for Your Leftover Pulp

As you already know, we’re pretty into juicing, but we always get asked what to do with the pulp. Throwing away pulp seems like such a waste when you know its packed with nutrients. In this blog post, we will give you several ideas to use the pulp so it doesn’t end up in the bin.

Smoothie

If you're into smoothies as well as juices, you can add the pulp to make your smoothies thicker or to give them added fibre. If your feeling daring add veg pulp to your smoothies as this will give you a great boost of nutrients.

Recipe

1 handful of strawberries

2 handful of spinach

1 large orange

1/4 pineapple

1/2 avocado

170g of leftover pulp

Soups

Soups are fun to make and turn out delicious mostly every time. Our favourite soup to make with added pulp is spicy tomato. The pulp gives the soup a great texture and is perfect for winter lunches or dinners.

Recipe

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 1/2 onion chopped

3 garlic cloves

1 small red chilli

1 teaspoon of ground cumin

2 tablespoons of tomato paste

1 teaspoon of ground coriander

800g of crushed tomatoes

500ml of chicken stock

A dash of Worcestershire sauce

170g of vegetable pulp

Cook onions, chillies, garlic and tomato paste until everything is soft.

Add the tomatoes and stock and bring to the boil.

Simmer the soup for around 25 minutes.

Take the soup and add to a blender.

Blend until smooth.

Add your pulp and blend again until the texture is to your liking.

Vegetable Broth

The broth is great to add to all kinds of dishes, so why not make your own with juice pulp.

Recipe

500g of vegetable pulp

230ml water

3 cloves of garlic minced

2 stalks of celery chopped

Salt and pepper to season

Bring all ingredients to the boil and then simmer for 2 hours.

Strain the broth and decant into airtight containers ready to freeze.

Fruit Leathers

These are great healthy snacks for adults and kids and they are so much cheaper than buying fruit leathers.

All you need to do is spread your juice pulp on baking paper and add any additional spices to your pulp. Then bake at 100˚C for around 3 hours.

If you are up for a challenge then you can always blend your favourite fruits together, add honey and cinnamon. Then spread your fruit leathers out onto baking paper or Paraflexx sheet if you are using a dehydrator. Cook on low for around 2 - 3 hours. This will give you seriously fruity leathers that your family will love.

Dog Treats

If you really want to know whats in your dogs treats then why not make your own from juice pulp. We do advise you check what foods your dog can’t eat with your vet before you go ahead and start creating. Making your own dog treats will save you a bit of money and these treats are a little more healthier for your pooch.

Recipe

500g pulp

340g sunflower seeds

150g ground flax

60g of peanut butter

Mix all ingredients together

Place on baking paper

Cook for 1 hour at 100˚C

Compost

If your still not a fan of juice pulp, then you can still use it in your garden to help your compost become rich in nutrients.

Overall, there are several ways you can use juice pulp and there are even more than we have suggested. The possibilities really are endless so don’t throw away your juice pulp and get creating.
