5 Reasons Why you Should be Blending

Blending is by far the easiest way to get tones of fruit and vegetables into your diet easily and with so much controversy about how much fruit and veg you should be eating, it can be hard to really establish what is classed as eating healthily. Below is 5 reasons why you should start blending ASAP.

Introduces New Foods

Eating the same foods we are used to can often become a routine, and sometimes we find it tricky to taste new foods. With blending you can try a whole host of other foods because flavours of some certain fruits and veg can mask other flavours. If you don’t particularly like an ingredient you may be surprised that you can’t taste it in your blend. This is great if you don’t like certain foods you know you should be eating. Having a wide variety of fruit and veg can also help lead toward a healthier diet.

Eat More Fruit and Vegetables

Studies have constantly been back and forth saying you need 5,10 and or 7 portions of fruit per day, but does anyone really know the correct answer? All we know is that fruit and vegetables are incredibly beneficial to our bodies, so eating as much as we can work out well in our favour. Now, eating 10 portions of fruit and veggies seems nearly impossible to some of us, but if you are blending you can easily fit 5 portions of fruit and veg into just one-morning drink.

Blending is also a great option for little fussy eaters, we know it can be a pain to get your kids to eat healthily, but getting them involved in creating their smoothie can often get them excited about drinking a concoction they’ve made. Or if your kids aren’t fussed about making their smoothies, why not hide the veggies they never eat and watch as they gulp their healthy smoothie down in one.

Weight Loss

Even though we don’t advise replacing a smoothie with a meal, we do suggest having one for breakfast or swapping your unhealthy sugary snacks for a smoothie, but making sure you combine your smoothies with a well-balanced diet is key. It’s easy to get carried away with adding lots of fruit into your smoothie to mask the taste of vegetables, but fruit still contains a lot of good sugars which can still cause you to gain weight. We always use the 80/20 rule. 80% of your blend should be from veggies and 20% of your blend should come from fruit. Applying this rule will keep blood sugars low and keep you in good shape.

Skin

Your skin needs vitamins and minerals to remain healthy. Unfortunately, alcohol and processed foods aren’t going to help you on this one and skincare can only save you for so long. Eating plenty of vitamin C will not only make your skin a lot happier but it will also boost your immune system. The best sources are blueberries, oranges papaya and sweet potatoes. A not so popular antioxidant is selenium, like vitamin C it helps support the immune system, but can also do wonders for your skin. Try blending tomatoes or even broccoli to get selenium into your diet. You also can't go wrong with drinking 8 glasses of water a day but we won't get into that!

Mood Improvement

Mood plays a big part in our lives and making yourself happier should be a priority! Certain fruits and vegetables can improve your sleep and anyone who gets a good nights sleep is always in a better mood.

Tart Cherries can help you sleep because they contain a high content of melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates your internal clock and signals your body to prepare for sleep. So get blending those cherries!

Blending can also provide you with lots energy that releases slowly throughout the day. When you blend fruits and vegetables together, the sugar from the fruit will supply the sugar your body craves for fuel and the vegetables will give you nutrients which is required to turn the sugar into energy.

Always remember that giving your body what it needs will be the success of any healthy lifestyle, so why not try the challenge of having a smoothie every day for 2 weeks and see how you feel. Remember Every little bit counts towards better health!
